Israel Shoots Down Drone from Lebanon

Israel said on Thursday it had shot down a suspected Hezbollah drone. An Israeli military spokesman, Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, said the unmanned aircraft was detected as it was flying over Lebanon and tracked as it approached northern Israel.

The military waited for the drone to enter Israeli airspace, and that an Israeli F-16 warplane shot it down after confirming the aircraft did not belong to friendly forces, said Lerner.

It was not immediately clear whether the drone was armed.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was touring northern Israel at the time of the incident, said Israel will prepare as necessary in the face of any threat. He called the incident one of "utmost gravity."
