Monsoon Floods Kill 80 in Pakistan, Afghanistan

Forecasters are predicting more heavy rain Monday for Pakistan and eastern Afghanistan, where monsoon floods have already killed more than 80 people.

The bad weather has destroyed many homes and wiped out farmland. The Pakistani city of Karachi was especially hard hit. Floods washed away roads and knocked out power to large parts of the city.

Soldiers have come in to help clear debris and bring in hot meals.

Fierce monsoon rains are an annual event in South Asia, but the last three years have been particularly disastrous.

Floods in 2010 killed at least 1,800 people and forced millions from their homes.
