Musharraf to Return to Court August 20
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Pervez Musharraf failed to appear in court Tuesday to be indicted on charges of criminal conspiracy and failure to prevent the murder of political rival and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007.
Musharraf's lawyer said it was not safe for him to appear in public in Rawalpindi, the city in which the shooting happened. He is to now expected to appear August 20.
The former prime minister is accused of failing to properly protect Bhutto or investigate her death. Musharraf's lawyer said his client has received death threats.
Benazir Bhutto was killed in a gun and bomb attack in 2007, just weeks after returning from self-imposed exile with intentions to re-enter politics. The government blamed Taliban militants.
Musharraf was in office from 1999 to 2008.
