Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is delivering a speech to America's prominent pro-Israel lobbying organization in Washington late Monday.

Mr. Netanyahu's appearance before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, AIPAC, comes one day after U.S. President Barack Obama addressed the same group.

According to news reports, the Israeli leader is expected to emphasize the historically close relations his country has had with the United States and to smooth over differences he and Mr. Obama have over negotiations with the Palestinians.

In his speech Sunday, Mr. Obama called on Israel to "make the hard choices" necessary to reach a Middle East peace agreement. They include, according to the U.S. president, using Israel's pre-1967 borders as the basis for negotiations.

Earlier on Monday, Mr. Netanyahu conferred with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden at the White House. On Tuesday, the Israeli leader goes before a joint session of the U.S. Congress to deliver what is being described as a "policy speech."
