Al-Shabab Twitter Account Suspended, New One Appears

Militant group al-Shabab has returned to the social media site Twitter, after its account was suspended Saturday.

Twitter shut down the account after al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the deadly mall attack in Nairobi. However, the militant group quickly re-appeared on the site using a slightly different moniker and was posting messages Monday.

Before the suspension, al-Shabab had issued several messages detailing the attack on the Westgate mall, which left more than 60 people dead.

This was the third time al-Shabab was suspended from Twitter. Its previous accounts were suspended after the militants posted photographs of a French soldier they killed, and later for threatening Somalia's president.
