A Month's Rest Ordered for Argentine President

Doctors in Argentina have ordered a month's rest for President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner after medical tests found blood on her brain.

A presidential spokesman said Saturday the Argentine leader had sustained a head injury on August 12, but tests at that time found nothing wrong.

However, new tests have revealed a chronic subdural hematoma, suggesting the blood has been building slowly.

The spokesman did not say whether Ms. Fernandez will try to keep managing the country or formally take medical leave and hand the government over to Vice President Amado Boudou.

In January 2012, the president underwent surgery to remove her thyroid gland only to be told later that she had been mistakenly diagnosed with cancer.
