Man Arrested in Car Bomb Plot at US Airport

Authorities in Kansas say they have arrested a man who was plotting to blow up an airport there.

Government attorneys say the suspect, 58-year-old Terry Loewen, intended to die in a car bombing at the Mid-Continent Airport in Wichita.

An undercover FBI investigation found Loewen was planning the attack for months. Authorities say he attempted to make his way onto airport property early Friday with what he thought were active explosives.

Authorities say that unknown to Loewen, the device was inert and never posed any danger.

They also say it is alleged that prior to the attempted attack, Loewen discussed his resolve to commit an act of violent jihad against the United States.

If convicted, Loewen would face a maximum penalty of life in prison.
