Russian Cosmonauts Complete Spacewalk

Russian cosmonauts embarked on a spacewalk Friday to install cameras outside the International Space Station, but technical problems hindered their operation.

Officials with the U.S. space agency, NASA, say the Russians placed two high resolution cameras outside the station on Friday; but, the astronauts later removed the cameras when the equipment did not transmit data to Russian Mission Control.

The spacewalk was the third in less than a week by the members of the station's crew. Two U.S. astronauts made spacewalks on Saturday and Tuesday to replace a failed cooling pump.

The malfunctioning pump shut down the space station's cooling system earlier this month and forced the astronauts to turn off all non-essential equipment, and many experiments were halted.

NASA says the U.S. spacewalks were a success.
