At Least 13 Killed in Indian Building Collapse

Indian rescue workers are continuing Sunday to look for survivors of the collapse of the multi-story building under construction in the southwestern state of Goa.

Officials say more than a dozen people were killed when the building gave way Saturday in Canacona, about 70 kilometers from the state capital, Panaji. Authorities say 28 people have been rescued.

The India Times reported Sunday that rescue workers could hear victims crying under the debris.

Authorities say the army has been deployed to help emergency workers sift through the ruble for survivors and for bodies.

The cause of the collapse is not known.

Building collapses are common in India because builders often use substandard materials and multi-story structures are often constructed without adequate supervision.
