Explosion Kills 4 in Southern Beirut

An explosion has hit a Shi'ite-dominated area of Lebanon's capital, killing at least four people and wounding 20 others.

The blast Tuesday happened in southern Beirut, a stronghold of the militant group Hezbollah.

The explosion site is in the same area where a car bomb killed five people earlier this month.

Hezbollah fighters have openly battled in neighboring Syria since last year, helping President Bashar al-Assad's forces against rebels trying to oust him from power.

Tensions have increased between Lebanon's Shi'ite and Sunni communities as armed clashes and bombings spread into Lebanon, including multiple attacks in Beirut.
