At least one person in the United States has purchased a winning ticket for the $425 million Powerball multi-state cash lottery.
The winning numbers for the lottery were drawn late Wednesday night, and an official with California's state lottery agency says a ticket matching those numbers was purchased in the city of Milpitas, located near San Francisco.
The odds of buying a winning ticket was one in 175 million.
The jackpot was the sixth-largest in U.S. lottery history, and the fourth-largest for Powerball, which operates in 43 states, plus Washington, D.C. and the Virgin Islands.
