Just back from monitoring Libya’s historic elections, William Lawrence, North Africa Director of the International Crisis Group, says that despite sporadic violence, he is optimistic about Libya’s prospects for stability and democracy. He also assesses the political situation in Algeria on the 50th anniversary of its independence from France as well as warns that fragile economic conditions in Tunisia could spark calls for another uprising.
