Ambassador Teresita Schaeffer , Head of the South Asia Program in the Center for Strategic and International Studies , in an exclusive interview with VOA Bangla talked at length about politics in India , Pakistan and Bangladesh .

In reference to India’s Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee's current 2-day visit to Washington, she thinks that the burden is on India to explain the delay in the process of completion of Indo-US Civilian Nuclear Deal.

On Pakistan she mentioned that the establishment of new democratic government in Pakistan has curtailed the power of President Musharraf to a large extent and now it needs adjustment of American policy with the new Gilani government of Pakistan.

Ms. Schaeffer thinks that the new wave of democracy in South Asia will have an impact on Bangladesh and though election is due at the end of this year, the political parties must maintain democratic norms for the success of democracy.
