Former British prime minister Tony Blair’s wife Cherie Blair on Thursday urged the government to allow the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, the detained Awami League president Sheikh Hasina to go to the United States for her medical treatment and hoped Bangladesh was going along the Myanmar route.
   

Blair, also a British barrister, made the comment to reporters after observing the proceedings of the barge-mounted power plant corruption case against Hasina, also a former prime minister, having a one-to-one consultation with her for 23 minutes in the special judge’s court 1 on the Jatiya Sangsad complex.

Cherie Blair, who was observing the proceedings, however, had consultations with Hasina in the courtroom after the adjournment.
  

 Expressing her concerns about Hasina’s health, Blair told reporters, that she  would hope, even now, that the government and the people would see that it is the best interest to release her so that she can go to America and undertake emergency treatment which she needs and deserves.
  

Ms Blair added that it seemed to her that Hasina’s health was  not good and that she was suffering both physically and mentally by her detention.

   She also advised Hasina and her lawyers for new proceedings against her detention.
