The North American Bengali Conference
,widely known as Banga Sammelan, has been celebrated annually in various cities
of North America to celebrate Bengali culture. It was first held in
New
York City in
1981 organized by the Cultural Association of Bengal. Each year, the event has
provided opportunities in seminars and workshops, to discuss issues related to
our immigrant life and to the new generation of Bengalis in North America. Over the years, the conference has enjoyed an
increasing participation and popularity. Renowned personalities from North America, India and Bangladesh have participated in all the previous conferences.
Pursuing
the tradition of the event, the PBCA has developed and designed a program for
the NABC 2008 to provide a forum to reflect on our life in America and to
explore our cultural heritage for a harmonious blending of our thoughts and
practices with the multifaceted environment we live in. The hosting of this
international conference in Canada is a great event, for it showcases not only
the maturity of a young community in Canada, but its commitment to maintain and
share its heritage and culture with the rest of Canada's multicultural society.
