U.S. President George Bush has arrived in Peru to join leaders from the Pacific Rim for a yearly economic summit that is expected to focus on the global financial meltdown.

Mr. Bush is to meet in Lima today (Friday - 5:45pm EST) with Chinese President Hu Jintao. The White House says that meeting offers an opportunity to review U.S.-China relations ahead of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The two-day Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit opens Saturday in the Peruvian capital.

Mr. Bush will seek to build support for measures endorsed last week during a meeting of the world's 20 biggest economies. The actions are aimed at fixing the global economic crisis and problems that led to it.

The U.S. president, who leaves office in January, is on his final trip abroad as commander-in-chief. He is to hold a number of bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the summit, including with leaders from Japan, South Korea and Russia.
