Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC

The annual cherry blossom festival near river Potomac is a major tourist attaraction in the Washington DC. Nearly a million people from across the world attended the festival in April this year, according to an estimate. This tradition of cherry blossom festival has its roots in the Japanese culture. Japan gave the US about 3,000 cherry plants as a token of friendship nearly a hundred years ago. Our correspondent Ahsan finds out more about the festival and its universal appeal.

Ambassador Chowdhury believes US - Bangladesh relation have evolved since the birth of Bangladesh as an independent nation in 1971, saying the basis of the relationship is firmly rooted in a mutual respect for democratic principles and ideals.  Ambassador Chowdhury also expressed his optimism about democracy in Bangladesh and talked about the budding trade relationship between the two countries.
