In today’s interview we talk to Saleem Samad , a Bangladeshi Journalist now living in Canada on political asylum. He has recently been awarded Hellman/Hammett Grant by the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression. Saleem says that he was arrested and tortured by security forces in Bangladesh for helping Channel-4 TV of Britain to get information on how Bangladesh is gradually turning into a fundamentalist nation from a secular democracy. Saleem says he was also looking for the growing religious fundamentalism in the country. He claims that in spite of relative freedom in Dhaka-based print media in Bangladesh , journalists whether in the print media or in the electronic media are often subject to threats.
