The registrar of the Supreme Court, Sunday recorded the handwritten statements of Shaikh Abdur  Rahman and Bangla Bhai as ‘jail appeals’ and the latest legal move has stayed the execution of their death sentences.

The 12-page prayers, handwritten by Rahman and Bangla Bhai on Thursday, reached the Supreme Court’s registrar’s office at about 1pm on Sunday.

The registrar said  that the petitions were recorded after getting the consent of the chief justice. According to Fazlul Karim, the appeal section of the Supreme Court will now place the petitions before the chief justice for constitution of a bench and fixation of a date for hearing the petitions.
