West Bengal government has asked the five state transport corporations to increase their revenue by at least one billion rupees within six months.

The government spends nearly four hundred billioncrores a year as subsidy to the corporations.

It is assumed that the bus conductors are lax in collecting fare. New fare collections standards are being fixed to tone up revenue. Inspectors will also carry on surprise checks on running buses.
