Recently Professor Arefin Siddique , the Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University has received death threat mails from unknown sources demanding the withdrawl of force-leave for Mr Mohiuddin a teacher of the Institute of Business Administration . Mr Mohiuddin is alleged to have been leading a militant group Hizbut Tahrir who have been banned in Bangladesh .
The death threat letter also demanded concessions in
pre-qualification for Madrassah student to enable them to get admission in
Dhaka University .

Chancellor Arefin Siddique in an exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service ,
talks about the threat and expresses his concerns that a democratic and free
academic institution like Dhaka University should be subjected to such threats
and people subscribing to militant ideas should have any place in this academic
institution which historically has shared democratic and secular ideas. Dr
Arefin Siddique , in the interview has vowed to uphold the tradition of Dhaka
University in protecting rights and freedom and democracy.
