Ayesha Khanam is the President of Bangladesh Parishad, the largest Women’s Lib Organization in Bangladesh. This organization has been actively fighting for the equal rights of women.
Recently India’s ruling alliance has offered to
build a political consensus on a bill which proposes to reserve one-third of
seats in the parliament for women. The bill has been passed in the upper house
of parliament but faces opposition from some political quarters.
In this telephone interview, Ayesha Khanam expresses her satisfaction
about his success in her neighboring country and hopes that it will be approved
at all levels. She also sheds some lights on the political status of women in
Bangladesh and adds that any positive changes in the status of women in India should have impact in Bangladesh.
