There are conflicting reports from Burma as to whether the country's former prime minister is on trial.

Tuesday, legal sources said the country's Supreme Court had begun hearing the case against ousted Prime Minister Khin Nyunt.

But today-Wednesday other sources said that while preparations for the trial were underway, proceedings had not yet begun.

Khin Nyunt was ousted last October by Burma's ruling military junta and placed under house arrest. He was also removed as the head of military intelligence, and the unit the National Intelligence Bureau was subsequently disbanded.

At least 40 other people associated with Khin Nyunt have been been tried on corruption charges in the past few months, including two of his sons.

Information for this report is provided by AP and Reuters.
