Burmese state media say the military junta plans to soon enact a new law to combat human trafficking.

The Myanma Ahlin newspaper quotes Burmese Home Affairs Minister General Maung Oo as saying the new law will meet international standards.

He says Burma has adopted the UN Convention on Combating Transnational Crimes and the Treaty on CombatingTrafficking in Persons.

In an annual report released this month, the U.S. State Department said Burma had not complied with minimum standards for eliminating human trafficking.

The Burmese military junta rejected the charge, saying the report lacked objectivity and failed to acknowledge the junta's efforts.
