A forum of the Greater Mekong Subregion opened Monday in the Chinese city of Kunming, with the participants agreeing to further open their borders to trade.

During a meeting with his Burmese counterpart Soe Win, Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao said he believes Burma can achieve long-term stability.

Mr. Wen also met with his counterparts from Vietnam and Laos During the two-day meeting, officials will discuss economic cooperation among GMS member countries.

The Greater Mekong Subregion comprises Burma, Cambodia, China, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. It was formed in 1992 with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank to enhance economic relations in the region.
