Damage to mosque attacked by suicide bomber in Khanaqin, Iraq
Iraqi officials say at least 74 people are dead after two suicide bombers blew themselves up during Friday prayers inside two Shi'ite mosques near the Iranian border.

The explosions reduced the mosques to rubble, injuring about 75 people in the mixed Shi'ite and Kurdish town of Khanaqin, 140 kilometers northeast of Baghdad.

Earlier, in Baghdad, six people were killed and 40 others injured when two truck bombs exploded minutes apart near a hotel and a recently discovered secret Iraqi jail.

U.S. military officials say the target appeared to be the hotel, used by western journalists and foreign contractors.

In other developments, U.N. human rights chief Louise Arbour called on Friday for an international investigation of Iraqi detention conditions following the discovery of dozens of maltreated prisoners in the secret jail.

Information for this report is provided by AP and AFP.
