Dr. Yin Yin Nwe, who is currently serving as Chief of Tsunami Support at UNICEF headquarters in New York, will be taking up her new duties as UNICEF Representative- Country Director for China before the end of the year.

Her father, Sao Saimong Mangrai, Head of the Shan State Education Department during the post-Independence years, is highly regarded among Shans as the first serious campaigner to promote Shan Literacy. He was a researcher as well as an author of the highly-acclaimed 'Shan States and the British Annexation' and other books and research papers.

Her mother, Daw Mi Mi Khaing, a former Principal of Kambawza School, was known for her famous book 'Burmese Family', which portrayed the beauty of Burmese culture.

She served as a faculty member for 19 years at Geology Department of Rangoon University. During her teaching career she got Mineralogy Doctorate Degree from Cambridge University, England.

She works 17 years for UNICEF in various countries, including Indonesia, some former Soviet Countries, Yugoslavia, Middle East and 23 countries from Africa. When Tsunami disasters occured she was a regional representative for Indonesia and had a chance to help Tsunami victims.

She can fluently speak and write in three foreign languages-English, French and Bahasa Indonesian and now she is trying to learn Chinese for her new job.
