The "New Light of Myanmar" newspaper reports today the restriction was lifted after three weeks passed without any new reported cases of the H5N1 bird flu virus.

Authorities had banned the transport and sale of poultry, eggs and animal feed after the virus was detected at seven poultry farms in Rangoon.

The newspaper says authorities have killed nearly 66,000 birds, and disinfected the affected farms 32 times in an effort to control the virus.

Bird flu has killed at least 172 people worldwide. The disease normally is passed from sick poultry to humans. Scientists are concerned the virus could change into a form easy passed between people.
