Officials in southern Thailand say a series of blasts has killed two people and wounded about a dozen more.

Authorities say the explosions began late Saturday in Pattani.

Police also say several explosive devices have been defused.

Islamist separatists have been waging an insurgency in the Muslim-dominated provinces of Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani since 2004.

More than 5,000 people have died in the fighting.
