7 Dead in Ukraine Mine Blast

Officials in Ukraine say seven miners were killed and nine injured in a gas explosion at a state-owned coal mine Monday.

Emergency officials said Tuesday the blast took place in eastern Ukraine in the Donetsk region of Makeyevka state.

Such explosions are not uncommon in Ukrainian mines, where there is a widespread failure to observe safety regulations.
