Officials in northwest Pakistan say a suspected U.S. drone strike has killed at least six militants, including a senior Haqqani network commander, Mullah Sangeen Zadran.
Zadran was designated a foreign terrorist by the United States in 2001.
Authorities say two missiles were fired Friday in the strike on North Wazirstan's Dargah Mandi, an area known as a stronghold of the al-Qaida-linked Haqqani network.
Pakistan's Foreign Office in Islamabad condemned the strikes, calling them a violation of Pakistan's sovereignty.
Drone strikes are deeply unpopular in Pakistan but U.S. officials say the strikes are an important tool in defeating the insurgents.
