| Egyptian soldiers surrounded site where two women opened fire at tour bus in Cairo, Saturday |
Wednesday's announcement comes less than a week after terrorists staged two separate attacks in Cairo - one outside the Egyptian museum and the other on a bus carrying tourists.
All three assailants were killed and at least nine people were wounded. The incidents were part of a string of attacks on tourist sites in Egypt since 2004.
The State Department says American citizens should maintain heightened awareness while traveling in Egypt.
