5 Suspects Arrested in Attack on Russian Ambassador in Kenya

TEXT SIZE - +

Kenyan police say they have arrested five suspects in the stabbing of Russia's ambassador to the east African nation.

Authorities said Monday the arrests were made in the same area outside the capital, Nairobi where the attack took place on Sunday.

Ambassador Valery Yegoshkin was stabbed when two assailants attacked his car in an apparent robbery attempt. He is reported to be hospitalized in stable condition.

Russia Monday demanded that Kenya provide extra security for their diplomats.

Sunday's stabbing is the latest in a series of attacks on high-profile officials in Kenya in recent weeks.

Last month, armed bandits carjacked Kenyan Trade Minister Mukhisa Kituyi, and a Danish diplomat was attacked in July.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP and Reuters.
