Armed Youths Set Buses on Fire in Paris Suburbs

Armed youths have set fire to two buses outside Paris, a day before the first anniversary of suburban riots in France.

Ten masked attackers invaded a bus in the eastern Paris suburb of Montreuil early this Thursday morning and forced the driver and passengers to get off. They then drove off and set the bus on fire.

A similar incident happened earlier in the western suburb of Nanterre, where hooded youths set fire to a bus close to business area of La Defense.

For three weeks last year, youths from mainly immigrant backgrounds burned cars and trashed shops in a protest blamed on poverty and discrimination.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
