15 Ethiopians Missing From All Africa Games

TEXT SIZE - +

Authorities in Mozambique are searching for 15 Ethiopians who have disappeared from their country's delegation to the 10th All Africa Games.

A top official with the Games, Penalva Cesar, says the head of Ethiopia's delegation confirms the 15 have gone missing from the games in Mozambique's capital, Maputo.

It is not clear how many of the 15 Ethiopians are athletes.

Ethiopia sent more than 170 athletes to the games, where more than 5,000 athletes have been competing in a variety of sports.  The two-week event, which runs through Sunday, is held every four years.

Mozambique is a popular transit point for illegal immigrants hoping to reach South Africa, Africa's most prosperous country.

Some information for this report was provided by AP, AFP and Reuters.
