Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton has married her longtime boyfriend, investment banker Marc Mezvinsky, in a lavish ceremony at an exclusive estate along New York's Hudson River.
Clinton, who is 30, wed the 32-year-old Mezvinsky Saturday at the secluded Astor Courts estate in the town of Rhinebeck, 160 kilometers north of New York City.
The bride's parents, former U.S. president Bill Clinton and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, later released a statement saying they watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as the wedding took place. The Clintons also thanked the people of Rhinebeck for their well-wishes.
Tourists and reporters from around the world descended on the picturesque Hudson River Valley town in hopes of catching a glimpse of celebrities or other guests who had been invited to the exclusive affair.
Some of the celebrities spotted in Rhinebeck included actors Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, fashion designer Vera Wang and Madeleine Albright, who served as secretary of state during Mr. Clinton's second term.
Mezvinsky is the son of former U.S. Representatives Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky of Pennsylvania and Ed Mezvinsky of Iowa.
The newly married couple had kept wedding details quiet, although it was reported that 400 to 500 people were invited to the nuptials.
There was speculation the wedding cost between $3 million and $5 million.
News cameras were barred from covering the event and security was tightened in the area, with the airspace above the venue designated a no-fly zone until early Sunday morning. Some roads were also closed for security purposes.
On Friday afternoon, Mr. Clinton made an appearance in Rhinebeck, shaking hands and answering questions from well-wishers as he headed to a restaurant. He and Secretary Clinton were spotted later in the evening headed to a party.
U.S. President Barack Obama said he was not invited to the wedding and that he was fine with that. During a television interview broadcast Thursday, Mr. Obama said two presidents would be one too many at a wedding.
