Egypt's MENA state news agency reports that the first election since protests that forced former President Hosni Mubarak from power is set for the end of November.
The news reports Tuesday quote a statement from the country's military rulers that Egyptians will vote in the first stage of parliamentary elections beginning on November 28. The rulers also said Egypt will stagger the parliamentary elections in a series of voting rounds.
The announcement ends months of speculation about the timing of elections.
A popular uprising calling for democratic reform ousted the former president in February after he had ruled Egypt for more 30 years.
Mubarak is on trial for charges of corruption, abuse of power and complicity in the killing of protesters during the 18-day-uprising that led to his resignation. He has pleaded not guilty.
