The head of an organization of Gulf Arab states has presented Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh with a plan for ending three months of political unrest in the country.
Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Abdullatif al-Zayani met with Saleh Thursday in Sana'a to present the proposal. Zayani is also expected to meet with members of Yemen's opposition.
Details of the initiative were not released. But Reuters news agency reports the GCC plan is for Saleh to resign within a month and for a presidential election to be held two months from when he leaves office.
Saleh has resisted growing calls for his resignation. On Wednesday he accused the opposition of instigating "conspiracies and coups."
More than 120 people have been killed in clashes between Yemen's security forces and protesters since anti-government demonstrations broke out in January.
