India's prime minister says he expects to meet his Pakistani counterpart on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting this week in New York City.
Manmohan Singh told reporters Wednesday in New Delhi that he looks forward to bilateral meetings with the leaders of India's neighbors - including Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan.
Relations between the two nations have been tense since peace talks stalled in January. The disputed territory of Kashmir has been the scene of repeated clashes. India and Pakistan have fought two wars over the region.
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said last month it is imperative for both India and Pakistan to restore a cease-fire on the border.
He said he looked forward to meeting his Indian counterpart on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
