Rescue officials in New Zealand say searchers have found the wreckage of a small plane that disappeared three days ago in Antarctica, but the crash was "not survivable."

The small plane was carrying three Canadians and was flying in support of the Italian Antarctic Program when it went it disappeared Wednesday night. Search efforts were delayed until Saturday because of bad weather.

Searchers said the plane crashed close to the summit of Mount Elizabeth in the northern end of Queen Alexandria Range, close to the Ross Sea.

New Zealand's Rescue Coordination Center said rescue teams are not yet able to land at the crash site because of high winds.
