Pentagon Confirms Fatal Shooting at US Naval Facility

A gunman has been killed in the U.S. capital during a shooting incident at a U.S. Navy facility that left several victims dead and others wounded at the U.S. Navy Yard.

Washington Mayor Vincent Gray says there are multiple fatalities at the Naval Sea Systems Command headquarters, but he could not confirm the number. News reports quote unnamed military officials as saying there may be as many as six fatalities.

The Washington police chief said authorities are looking for two other men, but could not confirm they are shooters.

Security officers still were searching the facility at midday Monday.

At the White House, President Barack Obama said he has ordered federal and local authorities to work together to ensure those who are responsible are quickly brought to justice. He said the victims and their families need America's love and support.

The Washington Navy Yard is located about two kilometers from the U.S. Capitol.

The Naval Sea Systems Command's headquarters is the work place for about 3,000 people. The Command is in charge of engineering, building, buying and maintaining ships, submarines and combat systems.
