Reports Say Kim Jong Il in Northern Chinese City

TEXT SIZE - +

Media reports Saturday said North Korean leader Kim Jong Il is visiting an industrial city in northern China, on the second day of a secretive trip to his country's most important ally.

South Korea's Yonhap news agency said the reclusive leader arrived in the city of Changchun by train early Saturday and was shuttled by motorcade to a state guesthouse.

Japan's public broadcaster, NHK, showed dim video appearing to show Kim leaving his hotel in the northeastern city of Mudanjiang on Friday night on his way to Changchun.

As always with Kim's overseas visits, his activities are secret and it is not known who he is meeting with, the purpose of his trip, or the makeup of his entourage.

China is North Korea's major ally and its most important source of food and energy.

Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters.
