Russian investigators say the suicide bomber who killed 35 people at Moscow's busiest airport was a 20-year-old man from the volatile southern Caucasus region.

In a statement Saturday, Russia's investigative committee says it will not identify the man by name because a search is continuing for the masterminds behind Monday's bomb attack at Domodedovo airport. Some 120 people were hospitalized as a result of the explosion.

The state-run Ria Novosti news agency said Thursday that investigators have a list of 10 possible suspects who may have been involved in the fatal attack.

The investigators say it was apparent the bomber deliberately targeted the airport's arrivals area to affect as many foreign travelers as possible.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev lashed out at the lack of effective security at the airport, and fired officials responsible for transportation safety.

Monday's bombing was the worst in the Russian capital since last March when a double suicide bombing killed at least 40 people in the Moscow subway. Two women responsible for those attacks were from Dagestan.

Russia is battling an Islamist insurgency in the North Caucasus, including Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin says the early investigation shows no connection to Chechen extremists.
