Japan to Carefully Consider Stationing Officials on Disputed Islands

TEXT SIZE - +
VOA News
Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said the new Japanese government will carefully consider stationing officials on the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands in a interview on December 28, according to JiJi Press, a Japanese news agency.

Kishida's Liberal Democratic Party, which was recently returned to power after being sidelined for three years, promised to consider placing officials on the disputed islands during the campaigning leading up to the December 16 elections.

While such a move would further damage relations between Japan and China, Jiji reported  Kishida as saying any decision would be done in a “careful and realistic manner, and from the perspective of national interest.”

Jiji also reported that Japan had asked the United Nations not to consider China’s claim that the islands belong to Beijing because of China’s extended continental shelf.

The islands have been a source of major tension between the two Asian powers, and on December 25, Japanese media reported that Tokyo had scrambled fighter jets over the East China Sea after reports of a Chinese marine surveillance plane in disputed airspace near the  contested islands.
.
Kishida also addressed an ongoing dispute over islands claimed by Japan and Korea.

He said the government would consider holding government-sponsored ceremony on February 22, also known as “Takeshima Day.,” according to JiJi. Takeshima is the Japanese name for the South Korea-controlled Dokdo Islands, which Tokyo claims.

The decades-long simmering dispute between Japan and Korea  has been mostly dormant until recently.

South Korea has maintained a presence on the islets since 1952 when its coast guard was dispatched to the rocks nearly equidistant from the Korean peninsula and the main Japanese island of Honshu.

Japan also finds itself in a lingering territorial dispute with Russia over the southern Kuril chain (which Japan calls its Northern Territories). They have been in Moscow's hands since the end of the Second World War.

SEATO: Yasukuni shrine is the place to show respect for Japanese soldiers who killed innocent Chinese, Koreans, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Americans and people in other European and Asian countries in WWII. See Youtube below to look how Japanese treat a righteous Canadian and how Japanese is thinking back to WWII!!!!??? Most Japanese didn't even know how much people were killed by Japanese and how many countries were destroyed by Japanese army in WWII. How terrible Japan propaganda about WWII is! Shame on Japanese! Americans should be aware of Japanese aggression if they don't forget Pearl Harbor in WWII.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMLDC7MEAs0

Re your claim that Nansha Islands belong to Philippines Before 1970 Philippines had never referred to these territories (Nansha Islands) in any of their Legal Instrument. The Treaty of Peace signed between US and Spain in 1900 stated that the scope of Philippines territories did not include Nansha islands and this also further confirmed in the Philippines Constitution of 1935 and also the Mutual Defense Treaty between Philippines and the US

There are historical and current facts that Xisha, Nansha and Zhongsha belongs to China and not Vietnam. That is the Spratly Islands. China historical claimed to these Islands stretches firstly around 200AD then the Tang Dynasty, the Yuan Dynasty and to current time.

There are a number of records, documents and publishing in various countries stated that the Spratly Islands were China's territories and not Vietnam. Some of these countries include Japan, France, United kingdom, USA and even the Premier Pham Van Dong and the Vice Foreign Minister Dung Van Khiew of Democratic Republic of Vietnam acknowledged that Spratly Islands belong to China and not Vietnam. Dung Van Khiew even go further to admitted that these have been China territories since Song Dynasty.

SEATO, You are not expert of South China Sea, which is more complex than you think and should be discussed in more appropriate forum instead of here. The current China map and territory is same as the map used in Taiwan (Republic of China, 1912-1949-present), and you cannot only blame one country and take sides with another country for border dispute without any evidence.
Vietnam invaded Cambodia, and illegally and brutally treated Vietnam Chinese in 1960s-1970s and robbed their properties and forced them to leave in 1960s-1970s. China were invaded many times in the past 200 years by other countries including by Japan. Every country including China has the right to fight if another country is aggressive and invade it. That is why we hope to solve the border dispute peacefully instead of only blaming China.

SEATO, you are obviously brainwashed by your Japan propaganda, and blame China and take sides at Japan without any evidence.
Japan is very aggressive (to get more islands and lands) even they failed in WWII. We cannot imagine what will happen if Japanese won WWII in 1945. Pearl harbor, Taiwan, Korean, Mongolia, Manchuria, Hawaii, The Territory of Guahan, The Ryukyu Islands, Mainland China, Vietnam, Indonesian, Thailand, Cambodia, India, and other Southeastern Asian countries will be all territories of Japan. How terrible it is!
If you doubt China map and territory, you can go check the China map Japanese used when Japanese invaded China in WWII, which showed Dianyu islands, Tibet, Mongolia, Manchuria, Taiwan are all territory of China. In the past hundreds of years, especially in WWII, Japanese wanted to rob more islands (like Taiwan and Diaoyu islands) and lands (e.g. Manchuria etc) from China and other Asian countries, but Japanese failed in WWII, and according to WWII declaration, Japan must return all islands and lands it invaded back to China, including Taiwan, Manchuria and Diaoyu islands. It is very clear! If you don't know these WWII declaration, please learn and read something from Internet before your prejudice and ignorant comments.
You can also go to check China Map from Taiwan (Republic of China, an ex-government of China, which shows the same territory of China, including Dianyu islands, Tibet, Mongolia, Taiwan, South China Sea, Manchuria. The current China government just got heritage from Qing dynasty and Republic of China (1912-1949-present, i.e. current Taiwan, Taiwan government lost the civil war in China and moved to Taiwan in 1949).
China is negotiating all territory issues with its neighbors and some of them have been solved peacefully (e.g. with Russia, and western Asian countries; land border with Vietnam etc). Japan has territory problems with all its neighbors, Russia, China, Korea, and none of them have been solved.
Japanese started to invade China from Ming dynasty and wanted to rob some lands long time ago (“Japanese robber” is seen from documents in Ming dynasty). Stop robbing. The best way is to cooperate with other countries including China and Taiwan, Korea (e.g. buy and sell, negotiation) instead of invasion and robbing.

China would use any excuses to justify their illegal invasions and occupation of their neighbouring countries. For the sake of arguments, would any sensible people in this world like to live like trash under foreign rules.Definitely No.Chinese included. That was why Chinese had fought hard for years to throw out the Mongols, the Manchus and then the Japanese. It is stupid and insane to say that the Tibetans and Chinese alike, welcome the Mongols and Manchus as their rightful rulers or saviours even.

China's territories stretched as far as Hainan Islands.China took over the Paracels from Vietnam in January 1974 and invaded North Vietnam in January 1979,and tried to grab the Scarborough Shoal from the Philippines in April 2012.

These are facts, how could Chinese people blatantly deny it.The Americans risked their lives to give you the independence and freedom that you yearned for from Imperial Japan, why do you on the other hand want to take them away from the others? Chinese cronies and propagandists should go back home. They are two-faced;they live off the fat of the Western society and yet always bite back at the hands that feed them

Re your comment of 29th December 2012

Please provide evidence that China has robbed territories from Vietnam, Philippines and India. In addition would you also provide evidence that China has killed defenseless Vietnamese fishermen.
Your comment that China has eradicated the Tibetan culture was mischevious, incorrect and show either you are ignorant of the current Tibet or you are just listening to the propaganda currently spreading around by those who are happy to have blinkers on.
Do research and give China some credit on the development of Tibet. China is not perfect but not to the claims you so proclaimed.
Please read up and update yourself on the above issues before you made fictitious claims.

Paracel Islands have always been part of China. Japan occupied these islands during the WWII and after the war they were return to China under the Cairo Declaration, Potsdam Proclamation and the Instrument of Japan Surrender . Until today Japan does not refute this. Therefore your claim that this belongs to Vietnam is incorrect.
