Thousands of people in South Sudan have fled the fighting in Bor in Jonglei State and crossed the border into Lakes State.The sudden influx of so many people has overwhelmed resources in the town of Awerial. That’s sharply raised the risk of disease outbreaks.

The fighting is between forces loyal to President Kiir and those supporting former vice-president Machar. The violence has shaken the world's newest country.

David Nash is Head of Mission in South Sudan for Doctors Without Borders, also known by the French acronym MSF. From Awerial, he spoke to VOA’s Joe De Capua about conditions there.
