State of the Union

The U.S. Constitution requires the president to present to the Congress a report on the status of the country. This traditionally is done once each year.

In his first State of the Union address to Congress and the American public, President Obama covered numerous topics of current issues and proposals for moving forward. He addressed problems and solutions related to the economy and jobs, education, the political process in Washington, national security, and immigration.

Video Volunteers Help Revive LA's Concrete River

The Los Angeles River is a concrete drainage channel through much of its 80-kilometer length. It channels waste-water from storm drains and has become a receptacle for much of the city's trash. But as Mike O'Sullivan reports, the river is slowly being restored with the help of volunteers, who take part in an annual clean-up.
