Suicide Bomber Targets Pakistani Police

TEXT SIZE - +

Police say at least five people have been killed in a suicide car bombing outside a police station in northwest Pakistan.

Authorities said the bomber detonated his explosives-laden vehicle in the town of Doaba in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. The dead included a police officer. More than 25 people were wounded in the attack.

The explosion destroyed part of the police station and damaged several surrounding houses. Police say the bomber was unable to directly strike the police station, because of security barriers outside the building.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Thursday's attack took place in Hangu district, which is adjacent to Pakistan's restive tribal region.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP.
