Two Peacekeepers Killed in Sudan's Darfur Region

The United Nations says two peacekeepers have been killed while on patrol in Sudan's conflict-stricken Darfur region.

A Jordanian officer and a peacekeeper from Senegal were killed when their convoy was attacked by unidentified gunmen Sunday.

At least a dozen international soldiers from the joint African-U.N. peacekeeping mission have been killed in Darfur over the past five months.

The western Sudanese region has been gripped by bloodshed since 2003 when rebels took up arms against the government in Khartoum, accusing it of discrimination and neglect. The United Nations says 300,000 people have died in the conflict and 2.7 million have fled their homes.
