A powerful Typhoon pounded the northern Philippines Saturday with heavy rains and high winds, prompting concerns of flooding and landslides.
Philippine officials said Typhoon Nanmadol, with wind gusts reaching 230 kilometers per hour, was moving slowly over the northern province of Cagayan, slowed by a high-pressure area over Taiwan.
Local officials have reported that two children were killed in a landslide north of the capital, Manila, and two fishermen are missing.
Taiwan's weather bureau says Nanmadol may not make landfall, but warns that the storm is expected to move north along Taiwan's eastern coast Monday and Tuesday, on its way to Japan's southern Okinawa island.
