Muhammad Alamgir
Muhammad is passionate about communication, especially when it comes to delivering accurate, reliable, objective news to people who need it most. In working with Voice of America’s new Pashto language program, VOA Deewa Radio, Muhammad has an opportunity to do this on a daily basis and fulfill a longstanding dream to live and work in the United States.
Prior to joining VOA Deewa Radio, Muhammad worked for the Pashto language channel AVT Khyber as a reporter in the Peshawar bureau, where he covered the Afghan presidential election and later as a producer in Islamabad. Muhammad also worked in print media reporting first for the daily newspaper, Jang, Pakistan’s leading Urdu broadsheet and later with the English daily newspaper, Dawn. Muhammad also produced documentaries for the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) concerning the situation in the tribal regions along the Afghanistan - Pakistan border.
One of Muhammad’s major career moments came during the devastating earthquake that struck Pakistan in October 2005. Muhammad and a skeleton production crew quickly went on air to bring live coverage of the quake aftermath to viewers in and outside of the country. These efforts would later earn his station best coverage award from government of Pakistan.
Muhammad earned his Master of Science in Journalism and Mass Communication from Gomal University in Dera Ismail Khan. He was born in the born in fertile land of Swabi (Ismaila). His favorite hobbies include cooking and reading books about history. He also earned a brown belt in the martial arts discipline, Aikido, which emphasizes mental discipline. Above all, Muhammad enjoys being in America and learning and exploring a new way of life.
